After being engaged for a year, Simon Cowell is still staying quiet about his upcoming wedding plans. After proposing to his fiancé, Lauren Silverman, in December 2021, he says they are still planning when asked. However, those close to the couple aren't sharing details either, other than some speculation on what they think the wedding will be like.
Cowell and Silverman
Silverman and Cowell first met in 2004, but Silverman was married at the time. In 2013, rumors began swirling that Silverman and Cowell were in a relationship, and her then-husband filed for an at-fault divorce due to Silverman's adultery. In addition, reports came out that Silverman and Cowell were expecting a child, and their son was born in February 2014. The Silvermans settled their divorce in August 2013.
The Proposal
After dating for eight years, Cowell proposed to Silverman while they were on a family vacation, during a walk on the beach. The moment was special, as their son, Eric, was present, as was Silverman's son, Adam. It caught her by surprise, and she happily accepted.
The two have kept all details of their wedding planning a secret and haven't even confirmed the date. Reports that they would be getting married in June of last year in London started spreading. However, Cowell put the rumors to rest and said they had not yet set a date.
Wedding Planning
While they aren't sharing details of the wedding planning process, many of their close friends speculate that Cowell has a lot of say in the wedding. Because he is so decisive and knows what he wants, they think he is playing a significant role. However, they know Silverman also has ideas for the wedding, so the belief is that they are both contributing.
In addition, their son has shared his opinions on what he wants at the wedding. Cowell has stated that his son is similar to him in that he is opinionated and likes to express his thoughts.
Simon's sister-in-law, Emma Cowell, has shared that the wedding will likely be relatively low-key. However, she noted that she wasn't sure whether Cowell would be a "groomzilla" because of his strong preferences.
A Family Man
Cowell, who is now 63, seemed to be comfortable with the bachelor life. He didn't express a desire to settle down, get married, and have children, so this change may surprise him just as much as it does his fans.
Cowell loves being a dad and admits that his son has changed him. He recognizes that he was previously a workaholic and is trying to change that about himself to spend more time with his family.
Fans have also noted that he seems kinder and gentler in his critiques as a judge on shows like “America's Got Talent.” He appears more relaxed and happier, and his interview statements support that observation.
Motorcycle Accidents
Cowell was involved in a severe motorcycle accident in August 2020. As a result, he broke his back in three places and had a rod inserted into his spine. The experience helped give him some perspective, as he realized that he could have died and was thankful to be alive.
In February 2022, he was in a second motorbike accident, which knocked him unconscious and broke his wrist. He admitted to not wearing a helmet and said he would start from now on.
While there has been no official announcement on the wedding date, and no one has shared any wedding details, Silverman and Cowell have expressed how happy and excited they are to get married. Cowell's son and stepson are also excited to participate in the wedding planning, making it a family affair.
